Rain had threatened all morning, but it wasn’t until I set out on my bicycle at around 1pm for lunch that the skies finally let loose. By the time I made the mile-and-a-quarter trek to Catene’s, a tiny Italian deli with, as it turned out, no seating and no room for lingerers, I was thoroughly soaked and 20 minutes early to meet Meg. A pint, I thought, would be the perfect thing to fill the time and give me a little respite from the downpour.
A Rainy Monday Well Spent
June 8th, 2009A trip to the Jerz
June 4th, 2009
Our list of possible next food outings grew with every conversation. Meanwhile, my Facebook posting of photos from our Connecticut hot dog excursion gave rise to a flurry of comments from folks I haven’t seen since grammar or high school eager to talk about hot dogs in my home state of New Jersey. Amanda and my excited exchanges about fond remembrances of hot dogs past were being duplicated elsewhere, and so we used my classmates recommendations as fuel for a second road trip to the Garden State.
Super Duper Weenie!
May 28th, 2009
With a new ZipCar membership and a will to turn my one day off into a mini getaway (rather than a day of errands and catch-up), I headed to roadfood.com in search of good lunch destinations within a few hours drive of the city. I’d had a recent craving for hot dogs, perhaps owing to several exchanges with Meg on the subject, including a video on the making of hotdogs, which we both recognized would turn most stomachs but had had the effect of making both of ours ache with longing, so I ran a search for “hot dog”. A preponderance of their hot dog recommendations were conveniently located in Connecticut, within the desired driving radius. When I came upon the seductively named Super Duper Weenie, I knew where I would be having lunch on Monday.
